What can be learned from past goshuin photos

The 2014 goshuin has the shrine name "Koami Shrine" and a seal indicating Benzaiten in Nihonbashi. Please see the composition and strokes of the two-page spread as a record of the goshuin I received at that time.

There is a difference between having a photo of goshuin and being able to get it in the same way today. Please check the types accepted and the availability of pre-written goshuin on a separate sheet at the site, and follow the instructions at the counter.

Separate plans for visiting the shrine and receiving gifts.

Officially, there is no specific closing time, but the distribution of awards, etc. is from 9:00 to 17:00. Even if you can pray at the shrine grounds after the evening, it does not mean that the goshuin counter will be open.

The official guide notes the compact grounds. Follow instructions for queues and counters, and avoid blocking paths while taking photographs. When visiting several Nihonbashi shrines, allow time for worship and waiting as well as travel.

History and traditions

Fukurokuju

It is said that there was a hermitage called Manpuku-ji where Kanzeon Bodhisattva and Benzaiten were enshrined.

About 600 years ago, when a plague was prevalent, an old man who was a netter visited a hermitage with ears of rice that had been caught in his net and stayed there for several days.

According to the shrine's tradition, the founder Eshin Sozu appeared in the hermitage keeper's dream and said that worshipping the old net-maker as Inari Okami would end the epidemic.

The next morning the old man had vanished. The hermitage keeper shared the dream with the villagers, who revered him as Koami Inari Okami and built a shrine. The epidemic is said to have subsided.

Good luck and misfortune

During World War II, all the shrine parishioners who participated in the war celebration and received amulets were able to return alive.
All buildings within the temple grounds escaped damage during the Tokyo air raids.
In the Great Kanto Earthquake of the Taisho era, although the shrine buildings and other buildings collapsed, there was no major confusion under the bridge where the chief priest evacuated holding the sacred object, and many people were saved.

Due to its history, it is believed to bring good luck and ward off evil.

Since Manpukuji, the predecessor of Koami Shrine, was abolished, it seems that Benzaiten, who was enshrined at Manpukuji, is enshrined here.

It is said that if you purify your money at the “Zenai-no-I” in the shrine grounds and keep it in your wallet without using it, you will be blessed with financial fortune.

Notes from the visit

Koami Shrine's previous photographs from an earlier visit

Goshuin was available at the shrine office next to the shrine.

At the time of my visit, three goshuin appeared to be available: two shrine designs and one for Fukurokuju of the Seven Lucky Gods.

The original goshuin book was available in red and blue, so I received the red one.
